What Is Your Belief Threshold Toward The Paranormal?

This is not a question whether or not you believe, just how easy or hard it for you to believe anything paranormal.
On a scale of one to five. 1- needing no explanation accepts blindly, 5- needing documented test results to support.
Also do you think being male or female makes a difference?

  • I give it a five, because I need solid evidence.
As far as sex being more prone to believe than another, I think its females, but I’d have to see a survey on that subject.
I believe females tend to be more accepting of that kind of thing, because we have a tendency to be more emotionally available.
But, I’m a five even though I’ve had many experiences I can’t explain. Here is the most recent one.
I don’t believe in ghosts but did have an experience that needs some explaining… and I can’t repeat the experience, so I will be left trying to understand it for the rest of my life.
It took place many years ago. I was babysitting two boys for family friends and later that evening when the parents were out, I heard frantic pacing sounds back and forth from the living room to kitchen above the floor I was residing in, which was the kids bedroom… and one of the kids started calling out for their mom and dad, because they heard it, too.
I told the kids not to go upstairs because I thought that it may be a burglar. So, I gathered up the courage to slowly creep up the stairs and saw that the front door was bolted, the sliding glass doors lead to a balcony over a cliff and view of the freeway and were also locked, so no one else was there.
I observed as I approached the kitchen that there was a box sitting on the table with 7 decks of cards in it that were wrapped in plastic and on each deck of cards was a picture of a movie star from the 1930′s to 40′s. It looked like a beautiful gift.
When the parents arrived home that night, I told them of my experience. They told me that they never returned home for anything and tried to repeat the noise or try to see if it was a sound on their porch, but it didn’t match.
I also later found out that those deck of cards were meant for a very close family friend who died the year prior from a sudden heart attack, and that it was his birthday that same evening I was there.
All I can say is… There has to be a logical explanation for it, because I don’t believe in ghosts, but I won’t dismiss the experience. It was really weird and the kids heard it too, because they started calling for their mom and dad and they clearly didn’t come back home for any reason.
    I’m still a skeptic, and I am a five.

  • I’ve passed the ‘threshold’ stage. I’ve remained a skeptic on individual claims, 5, roughly, and in general insofar as the overall paranormal I’m a 1, or 1/2, maybe less.

  • I’m about a 2 1/2. I certainly am open to the paranormal and have many such encounters.
However I don’t blindly beleive just anything and I try and keep a balanced mind when it comes to new people and new circumstances. I don’t have to experience it personally, but I either need to know hard facts regarding a person or situation or have one of my inner circle tell me that they expereinced something.
I don’t think that there is a real difference between gender. In general I think that women are more apt to speak about the paranormal but that’s just because a belief like this is personal, emotional, and prone to criticism and I think that we as western society still tell our men that it’s ‘unmanly’ to talk this way.
Luckily for us, this is changing. Too slowly for my taste but I’m famously impatient.

  • I am a 2. The paranormal and the unknown gives humanity something to live for without it then all we would do is live work marry have kids and die. The unknown gives us something to hope for something to live for. Even religion can be put in the category for the sheer fact that you have to have faith to believe. A world without these things is a very boring and basic world. I think it makes no difference for you to be female or male.

  • Definite 5. Solid evidence makes all the difference. I do think women are more likely to believe a lot easier. They like to be talked about.

  • 1 – I do believe, and without doubt need no documented test results to support it. I can feel it and know…..just know.
Female perhaps is more in tune with the “feeling side”.

  • I tend to believe certain items on fairly flimsy evidence depending on what my past experiences or the amount of sources said evidence comes from, as well as the reliability of the source… I guess that would make me about a 3…

  • I am about an 8. I have had encounters since I was 5. I do not think it makes a difference if your female or male, females do intend to be more open-minded though.

  • I’m a 1, have had my encounters with loved ones that have passed. I have had witnesses with me during some of my encounters too. I don’t think tho, that it makes any dif, being male or female tho.

  • Some paranormal things I believe in others I’m very skeptical at. I would have to say that I’m at a 3 on your scale. I believe in angels and ghosts because I have experienced them. I’m not sure about aliens, I think their out there they just haven’t come here yet. Bigfoot, is a skeptical idea at best, at least what they think it is. Psychics are real and their are many diffrent types. I have met a few real ones and many fakes. As far as mythical creatures are conserned I think most of them are just myths. I consider myself a kind of mini expert in paranormal stuff so I know about a lot but I only truly believe in what I have seen or experienced or met in some cases.
I don’t think that being male/female makes a diffrence in such cases. I think that people of both sexes believe things equally.

  • I will say 1.makes no difference if you are male or female.

  • I would have to say that I’m a 3, but only because I have had experiences with the paranormal. This just makes sense to believe in it. I do not think it has any difference in male or female. If you believe in it you have heard the stories and think them to be truthful. It is your decision whether to believe them or not.

  • i beleive in it all ima great beleiver so ima 1. I dont think it makes a diff if its a male or female it depends on you.
