I see most of my guardians in my dreams only. They are mostly message dreams of either symbols or a phrase of some kind that I will remember that will pertain to my circumstances. I met my guides in 1996 in my dreams.
Now I know I wasn’t imagining things. It never did it again after that and I lived alone. Lots of other subtle things happened as well when they were first introducing themselves to me, without frightening me. 
It has only gotten better since.
One instance, I came home from work one night and opened my refrigerator door and noticed the temp was turned down to the number 1. I thought that was strange so I turned it back up again to 8. The next night the same thing happened, the temp had been turned down to 1. This time I made a mental note of it and turned it back up to 8 again. It happened one more time the following evening, it was turned down to the number 1.
Most will tell you you are delusional or seeing demon spirits, only because they haven’t had the experience themselves. It’s a most wonderful experience to invite angels into your life…. The only ‘ghost’ or spirit I’ve ever seen physically was an image of my dog Heidi standing in my driveway, she had passed away years prior, it brought tears to my eyes. I had NO expectations of that ……

One year during my birthday, I was having a sleep over with a bunch of my friends. We were in the living room laughing and having a good time and for some reason I looked into the kitchen, like in the corner of the room toward the ceiling and I saw something. It appeared to be a demon-like creature and was staring at me. I freaked out! No I am not kidding about this either! Living in that house, we had many paranormal experiences.
One night when it was late, my step mom was up reading in her bed. Our dog started growling and looking down the hallway, so when she looked, she saw a dark figure standing there. After a minute or two, it went away. She totally freaked out and closed her bedroom door.(It wasnt my dad either because he was in Iraq)

All ghost stories are made up or else misinterpreted. I highly recommend you check out a The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe. I promise I don’t represent them in any way. Also, Carl Sagan’s book, The Demon-Haunted World is great for exposing this stuff as well.

my favorite one is when i saw my grandfather around the time i was in the 6th or 7th grade. I was sitting on the computer and watching tv when i saw this big man staring me down floating like 3 feet off the ground and had no face and a certain almost glowing aura on him. I screamed. hahaha. So i freaked out and my mom told me it was okay and all that stuff and as soon as she left i saw him again……I screamed…..louder this time…..and ran out the door…….
hope that made you laugh it is a true story though.
